Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547–1616) is widely regarded as the most important and celebrated figure in Spanish literature, and one of the world's pre-eminent novelists. His major work, Don Quixote, considered to be the first modern novel,[4] is a classic of Western literature, and is regarded amongst the best works of fiction ever written. This portrait is a digitally modified version of the engraving by Mackenzie in c1600.
